Festival Sounds of Us starts tomorrow in The Hague

The festival Sounds of Us presents cultural expressions from Surinam and the Caribbean Netherlands that have their origins in West Africa and refer to the Dutch colonial and slavery past. How do young artists draw on these powerful traditions and translate African influences into their own artistic expressions? Who are their historical heroes? How do they give African diaspora art a prominent place in the Netherlands? From Wednesday 4 to Sunday 8 December, the festival will offer concerts, children’s theatre, films, lectures, workshops and a market in the De Vaillant theatre and Filmhuis The Hague.
